Overview
About the Quantis USB QRNG
Although random numbers are required in many applications, their generation is often overlooked. Since computers are deterministic, they are not capable of producing truly random numbers. A physical source of randomness is required, and since quantum physics is inherently random, it is natural to exploit it for this purpose.
Quantis is a physical random number generator that utilizes a basic quantum optical process.
Quantum random number generators have the advantage over conventional sources of randomness in that they are immune to environmental disturbances and allow for the verification of their operational status. Quantis’ operation is continuously monitored, and if a fault is detected, the random bit stream is immediately disabled. Furthermore, Quantis provides full entropy (randomness) instantly from the very first photon (bit).
First launched in 2001 and certified to the highest standards of entropy testing, the Quantis QRNG USB delivers true, unpredictable randomness at entropy rates of up to 4 Mbps. This hardware random number generator (RNG) is compatible with most platforms and integrates easily into existing applications.
For higher performance, see the Quantis QRNG PCIe, which provides entropy rates of up to 240 Mbps.
Quantis QRNG modules come with Quantis software, which includes drivers for the most commonly used operating systems, advanced features such as random data scaling and randomness extraction, and a graphical interface for reading and displaying random numbers and saving them to a file. A library is provided to facilitate easy access, along with a demonstration application.
Quantis QRNG PCIe Certifications
The Quantis PCle-40M and PCle-240M were submitted to the NIST-compliant test suite and successfully passed NIST SP800-22 and SP800-90B, as well as the Dieharder statistical tests.
1D Quantique is also working with partner laboratories in Germany on a Common Criteria certification for the Quantis QRNG chips integrated into the PCIe-40M and PCIe-240M.
For a wider range of certifications, see the Quantis QRNG USB, which has been certified by several reputable organizations.
